Ambassador Dennis Ross addressed students, faculty,
alumni, and other guests to accept
the Seventh Annual International
Advocate for Peace Award on April 23, 2007.
Justice Benjamin N. Cardozo recognized the importance of freedom of
expression as an avenue through which one can advocate for peace. In his
spirit, the students of the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution honored
Ambassador Dennis Ross, who embodies Cardozo's passion through his
work in international conflict resolution.
A highly skilled diplomat, Ambassador Ross was the U.S. mediator in the peace process in both the George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton administrations. He was instrumental in assisting Israelis and Palestinians to reach the 1995 Interim Agreement; he also successfully brokered the 1997 Hebron Accord, facilitated the 1994 Israel-Jordan peace treaty, and intensively worked to bring Israel and Syria together.
